White Cockatoo Hotel, Petersham

White Cockatoo Hotel, Petersham
Date: 15th July 2012
Price: $20
Type: chicken "Manya"
With: black bean and beef mince sauce with lines of peri peri mayonnaise

Another un-sampled schnitzel variety at the White Cockatoo that needed tasting. Divided between three people, it was the perfect amount of food. The upside with the White Cockatoo schnitzels that aren't covered in cheese is that it's generally a less oily experience. As you can see, it doesn't look very nice, but the black bean saucy substance was tasty and very excellently matched with the peri peri mayonnaise. The chips: always robust. The side salad: revolto (unless you like onion).

Empire Hotel, Annandale

Empire Hotel, Annandale
Date: 14th July, 2012
Price: $12
Type: chicken
With: mash and veggies

Bargain! I've never eaten at the Empire.... in fact, up until recently i could have sworn the Empire Hotel was a seedy den of evil and cover bands. This schnitzel was nothing out of the ordinary, but it was exactly what I needed before i night of beering and bands at the Annandale Hotel down the street (the $12 jugs of Coopers made for a cheap start to the night as well!). A good size, cooked well and with decent mash. Can't fault this specimen at all. It even came with a mysterious shadow puppet of a dog. woooooooh woooooooooooh spoooooky.

Huntsbury Hotel, Petersham

Huntsbury Hotel, Petersham
Date: July 1st, 2012
Price: $15
Type: chicken parmigiana (with eggplant rather than bacon)
With: salad and chips

Look at these meals. LOOK AT THEM! They were ordered 5 minutes apart and count the differences. Schnitzel size, presence/absence of beetroot and bean sprouts, chip quantity, green seasoning stuff (assumedly parsley) on the left schnitzel. Anyway, for the price the schnitzel itself was pretty good. More of a homemade style than your usual pub schnitzel specimen. Although salad number 2 lacked several of the ingredients of salad number 1, the Huntsbury should be commended for having more than lettuce, tomato and onion in their side salad. Verdict: pleasant.

White Cockatoo Hotel

White Cockatoo Hotel, Petersham (again)
Date: 17th June, 2012
Price: $20ish
Type: chicken (espaƱola)
With: chick peas, chorizo, mystery sauce and chips

No, the local hippie did not stumble through the pub with an upset stomach from some bad acid and vom his last chickpea dinner on our schniddy.  Yes, I say our because  there was more than enough for the two of us.  Great quality schnitzel, thick and juicy fillets – this behemoth has not been beaten thin for square inch appearances.  Fear not, the sauce is tastier than it looks too…but oh, SO MUCH SCHNITZEL! The chips are mercifully a non-event.
